1. About FoodBridge

FoodBridge (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the FoodBridge platform, including our website at app.foodbridge.co and our iOS mobile application (collectively, the “Service”). The Service connects restaurants and food businesses with nonprofit shelters to facilitate food donation. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2a. Account Information

When you create an account we collect:

  • Name — your full name as the authorized representative of your organization
  • Email address — used for login, authentication, and account communications
  • Organization name — the name of your restaurant or nonprofit shelter
  • Organization address — your business or nonprofit’s physical address (not a personal home address)
  • Phone number — optional, collected during identity verification only

2b. Identity Verification

To verify that users are legitimate food businesses or registered nonprofits, we collect:

  • Government-issued ID — an image of a government ID submitted by the account holder during onboarding, used solely to verify identity and prevent fraud
  • Supporting documents — such as health inspection certificates (restaurants) or capacity documentation (shelters)

Verification documents are reviewed by FoodBridge administrators only and are not shared with other users of the platform.

2c. Donation Content

When submitting or accepting a food donation through the Service, we collect:

  • Photos — food photos uploaded by restaurants to describe a donation; these are associated with your account and visible to shelters on the platform
  • Donation details — food name, category, quantity, estimated value, storage conditions, allergens, and special instructions
  • Acceptance signature — a digital signature drawn by shelter staff to confirm receipt of a donation

2d. Location

With your permission, we collect your organization’s geographic coordinates to display your location on the platform so that the other party (restaurant or shelter) can find you. You can remove your location at any time from your account settings.

2e. Usage Data

We collect basic server logs and error reports to maintain platform uptime and fix bugs. This data is not linked to your identity for analytics purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Verify your identity and eligibility to use the platform
  • Facilitate food donations between restaurants and shelters
  • Generate and deliver PDF donation receipts
  • Display your organization to the other party on the platform
  • Send transactional emails related to your account (e.g., email verification, password reset)
  • Maintain security, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service
  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations

We do not use your data for advertising, behavioral tracking, or profiling. We do not sell your data to any third party.

4. Information Sharing

We share limited information within the platform as necessary to facilitate donations:

  • Between restaurants and shelters — organization name, address, and donation details are visible to the other party in a donation transaction
  • On receipts — donation PDFs include both parties’ organization names and addresses

We use the following third-party service providers to operate the platform:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (data is stored in the United States)
  • Vercel — web application hosting
  • Expo / Apple — iOS app distribution

These providers process your data only as needed to deliver their services and are bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements. We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Donation records are retained indefinitely to support receipt generation and compliance with food safety regulations. Identity verification documents are retained for a reasonable period after verification is complete and may be deleted upon request.

If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as maintaining donation records).

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Deletion — request that we delete your personal information
  • Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Objection — object to certain uses of your data

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit and secure cloud storage via Supabase. Access to personal data is restricted to authorized FoodBridge personnel on a need-to-know basis.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. If you have reason to believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

8. Children’s Privacy

FoodBridge is a business-to-business platform intended for use by restaurants, food businesses, and nonprofit organizations. It is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. If the changes are material, we will notify you by email or by a prominent notice in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
